1990 May - Provincial Office of the Provincial Director of Buildings functioning under the Ministry of Food and Cooperative Development, Provincial Office of the Provincial Director of Irrigation and the Chief Ministry of the Southern Province (Highways).

1990 May - Establishment of the Provincial Highway Director's Office functioning under the Chief Ministry of Southern Province (Highways) as a separate institution under the new General Manager, Provincial Road Development Authority (Southern Province).

1993-08-01 - Approved for the post of Deputy Chief Secretary (Engineering Services) of the Southern Province with the first Deputy Chief Secretary, re-activating the offices of the Provincial Director of Buildings and Irrigation under the Southern Provincial Engineering Services Office.
